Bathrooms are where corner-cutting hides — and where Calabasas checks
Waterproofing, venting, and drainage all live behind the tile. Nobody ever sees them again once the job is done, which is exactly why they are the things that fail, and exactly why the city's plan check and inspections exist in the first place.
Calabasas runs its own Building & Safety desk: its own plan check, submitted through the city's SmartGov portal. It is not LA County, despite the county building office sitting on Agoura Road. That office serves Hidden Hills, Westlake Village, and the unincorporated county, not Calabasas homes. Knowing which counter your permit goes to is the first test of whether a contractor has really worked here.
A bathroom is plumbing, waterproofing, tile, electrical, and glass in a strict sequence. Every failed shower we have been called to look at started at a hand-off between two trades. When one crew owns the whole sequence, nothing gets buried by the next trade before it has been checked.
Interior-only baths do not trigger the city's design review. Adding a window, cutting in a skylight, or bumping an exterior wall out for a bigger shower does. And because our designers draw to those standards from the first sketch, an ambitious bathroom doesn't turn into a second project.
- Waterproofing done to spec, inspected
- One crew: plumbing to glass
- City permit filed through SmartGov
What your bathroom remodel includes
A full gut and re-layout, or an in-place refresh: we tell you honestly which one your bathroom actually needs. The most requested project around here is the shower conversion: the tub-heavy layouts that came standard in the 1970s and 80s housing stock, opened up into a walk-in shower the household will genuinely use.
While the walls are open we deal with what is behind them. In older Calabasas homes that usually means original supply lines, tired shut-off valves, undersized exhaust fans, and waterproofing that was never right. We show you exactly what we find, and we fix it once. To current California code, inspected, not covered back up.
Vanities, stone, tile, and fixtures are sourced in-house by our own team. Bathrooms stall on materials far more often than on labor, so we order, stage, and check everything before demo day rather than after it.
Shower conversions
Tub-heavy 1970s and 80s layouts opened into walk-in showers: new pan, new waterproofing, new glass, and a drain sized for the footprint you are actually building.
Waterproofing, done to spec
Pans, membranes, and seams built to the assembly they were designed for and inspected before a single tile goes on. It is the least visible part of the job, and the only one you find out about a year later through the ceiling below.
Lighting and ventilation
Circuits, fixtures, and exhaust ventilation brought to current California code. Moisture is the enemy in a bathroom. The fan matters as much as the tile, and it gets sized for the room, not for the box it came in.
Vanities, stone, tile, and fixtures
Selected with our in-house designers and sourced by us. You choose the finishes; we handle the ordering, the delivery timing, and the returns.

Built for how your family actually uses it
A primary suite and a kids' hall bath are not the same job with different tile on the wall. They differ in sequence, in schedule, and in what has to be right.
Primary suites in The Oaks and the gated streets
Hotel-grade finish expectations, discretion at the gate, certificates of insurance and community work-hour rules handled by us. We work to the standard the gates next door expect: Calabasas shares a ZIP code with Hidden Hills, and it shows in what homeowners here ask for.
Hall baths and kids' baths on the school streets
Durable finishes, real storage, and a schedule that respects a working household. We say that with pride, not apology: most of the bathrooms we build are the ones a family uses every single day.
Aging in place, designed so it doesn't look like it
Curbless showers, wider doorways, blocking in the walls for future grab bars, comfort-height fixtures — drawn by our in-house design team so it reads as a design choice, not as equipment.
Hillside homes off the Mulholland corridor
Narrow access, staging material where there is no driveway to spare, and the patience a sloped lot demands. We plan the logistics before demo day, not during it.
How it works
Four steps, and the same people at every one of them.
- 01
Call or send the form
A real person calls you back in 5 minutes during business hours. You reach the builder's own office, and nobody resells your number.
- 02
Free on-site estimate
We look at the bathroom, ask how many people use it and when, read what is likely behind the walls, and give you a written scope.
- 03
Design and permits
Our in-house design team draws it, and when the work needs a permit we file with Calabasas Building & Safety through the SmartGov portal. Corrections, if any come back, are ours to answer.
- 04
Build
One crew working in strict sequence, with everything sourced and staged before demolition. A hall bath typically runs a few weeks of construction once materials are on site; a primary-suite gut takes longer. You get a written schedule before we start, either way.

Why Calabasas homeowners pick Mayer's Construction
Ask any contractor who fixes failed showers: the leak is always at the hand-off between trades. We don't have hand-offs.
When you call, you talk to the builder, not a call center that sells your number to four contractors.
CA License #1063024 is a state license, which means we are licensed for every city in California, including Calabasas. Verify it yourself: the CSLB lookup link sits at the bottom of this page and takes one click.
In-house design team
Layout, tile, lighting, glass, and the permit drawings, all under one roof. You never hire a designer separately or carry drawings between companies.
No subcontractors
Plumbing, waterproofing, tile, electrical, and glass are one strict sequence, and one licensed Mayer's Construction crew owns all of it from demo day to the final walkthrough.
Our own material sourcing
Vanities, stone, tile, and fixtures ordered, staged, and checked by us before demolition, because a bathroom that waits on a wrong-size fixture waits with the walls open.
Family-owned since 2009
17 years of design-build, 5.0-star rated across California, CA License #1063024 with a free CSLB lookup so you can check us in one click.
Rated 5.0 across California — and new to Calabasas
Here is the part most contractor pages leave out. We are the Bay Area's 5.0-star design-build team, now serving Calabasas. We have not finished a bathroom in this city yet, so you will not find a Calabasas testimonial on this page, and you will not find a borrowed photo with a Calabasas caption under it.
What we bring instead is checkable. 17 years of family design-build. A 5.0-star rating across California. An active state contractor's license, CA #1063024, free to look up on the CSLB site. And a design team that already knows how this city's own permit desk works. Look at the work, check the license, ask us hard questions on the phone, and judge for yourself.
Our first Calabasas clients get the same designers, the same crew, and the same written schedule as everyone else, from a company that intends to earn this city one bathroom at a time.

In our clients’ words

Impeccable workmanship. Mike was a stickler for quality — insisting the tiles have mitred corners, even if I didn’t ask for it. Great communications, every step of the way.
They worked hard to capture our vision, and if we ever ran into any issues, they worked with us to figure them out. We would happily use them again for another project.
High-quality materials, outstanding craftsmanship, and a very professional team. The entire project was well organized and completed on time, with great attention to detail.
